Dr. Karen McNamara serves as Executive Director for SHARE in Africa.  She has spent 8 summers supporting girls' education in Tanzania since 2008.

Karen was an Adjunct Professor of literature for children, teaching graduate courses at Drew University.  Her research has been published, with her chapter, “’It was a life-changing book” (Hungry Words, 2006) positively reviewed in The Irish Times.  Dr. McNamara has presented 17 papers at national and international conferences.

Graduating with distinction from Drew University, her doctoral dissertation, “Children’s Literature of the Great Irish Famine,” won the University Prize.

With her husband Sean, and their three children, Shannon, Megan, and Brendan, Karen has also volunteered in Peru, Costa Rica, and Guatemala.   Karen resides in St. Petersburg, Florida.
