With great excitement the SHARE Pen Pal Letter Program was launched in March 2010.

SHARE Kagemu girls initiated the program by writing 33 letters introducing themselves and their country, in English, to teenage SHARE volunteers in New Jersey. Since then, there have been numerous exhanges back and forth between the SHARE girls in Africa and the SHARE volunteers in North America.  Approximately 70 teenagers are participating in the program.

In an effort to enhance this cross cultural exchange, SHARE's media director Brendan McNamara filmed the African girls giving shout-outs to their pen pals in America in July 2010.  In August the American teenagers viewed the footage and then returned the favor with Brendan recording their reply messages to be sent back across the globe.

SHARE Tanzania coordinator, Tabitha Ephraim, and SHARE board member, Barbara Barkley, are the adults supervising this pilot program.
