Hekima Girls' Secondary School in Bukoba

Hekima is the only all-girls private secondary school in this region and is one of the few schools which care to enrich their students with well-balanced social ethics, and spiritual and academic rigor. That is why it has deliberately enrolled orphans not only as a way of providing them shelter and teaching them self-reliance, but also as means of teaching their fellows how to work with and help such unlucky individuals in our society. Currently Hekima has over 50 orphans and this number is increasing every year due to the increased number of HIV/AIDS victims

“Education is the movement from darkness to light.”

Three SHARE libraries that were dark and gloomy are now bright and useful in the evenings and through the long rainy season thanks to the successful LIGHT FOR LEARNING fundraising campaign. Hundreds of SHARE girls, as well as thousands of other students and local villagers, have all benefited. SHARE is proud to have installed electricity into two schools and solar power into a third school.

    2010 SHARE Volunteers

As the work and mission of SHARE has grown and received local and national media attention, SHARE volunteers have sprung up all over the Tri-State area (New York - New Jersey - Pennsylvania) and even in locations as far away as Rome, Italy! Since the charity's inception over 1000 people have been mobilized to support SHARE's mission to improve the lives of African girls through education. SHARE has been a youth-focused organization from its very beginning, and is proud of the work that its many youth groups do on behalf of the girls in Tanzania. Hundreds of New York girls made bookmarks for the SHARE students, 75 girl scouts from Pennsylvania organized school supply drives, and 400 Ridge High school freshmen English students managed a book drive for SHARE. Several elementary school students did walk-a-thons in support of SHARE. SHARE highlights a number of these volunteers in our "Shout-out" section.

  • Vacation Bible School at Liberty Corner Church

    2009 SHARE Volunteers

SHARE had approximately 800 volunteers in 2009. Most of these volunteers were from the New Jersey area and helped with book collections, school supply drives, shipping the donations, and raising funds for SHARE. Schools, scout troops, and church groups were generous with their time and their donations. Thanks to everyone who helped SHARE equip two additional libraries in Tanzania with children's books and school textbooks.

  • Ridge High Volunteers

    2008 SHARE Volunteers

In SHARE's first year, 2008, nearly 100 people volunteered to help SHARE address the "book famine" in Tanzania. Most volunteers were from Basking Ridge, New Jersey, who generously donated children's book and school supplies to the Kiteyagwa Primary School. Several "SHARE Parties" were held with dozens of Ridge High School students helping to organize, label, and box the SHARE contributions. The charity wouldn't be where it is today if it were not for the help of these early SHARE volunteers.
