Hold a School Supply Drive

There is an extreme need for certain school supplies for our SHARE libraries in Tanzania. 
To get started, please send an email to info@shareinafrica.org, to let us know you are planning a supply drive. (Pleasee include your contact details.)

SHARE accepts donations of:

  • Laptops
  • E-readers
  • Learning CDs
  • Educational Posters
  • Digital Cameras
  • Memory Cards
  • Calculators
  • Scissors
  • Pens and pencils
  • Pencil sharpeners
  • Chalk
  • Rulers
  • Erasers

Please note that SHARE no longer accepts donations of books, binders, notebooks, paper, pads, colored pencils,  and markers.  The main reason is that these are too heavy, too expensive to transport to Tanzania.  We also prefer to support the local economy and purchase these supplies in Tanzania.  Thanks for understanding. 

Please organize school supplies: Make an inventory sheet to go with the shipped supplies that generically lists the supplies being shipped….100 pens, 25 calculators, etc. Remove all packaging and place the supplies in zip lock bags. This keeps shipping costs down. Please bag each type of supply separately (all pens in their own bags, all crayons together, etc.).

Boxing: Please pack in STURDY boxes. When in doubt keep the box smaller and easier to lift. (Please keep all boxes under 30-pounds.) Your box will be handled many times, by many people in America and Africa before reaching its final destination: a SHARE room.

  • Pack each box as tightly and fully as possible. Since each box supports the boxes above them, under-packed boxes will be crushed.
  • Close the boxes with packing tape. (If your last box is not full, deliver it un-taped.)
  • Stick a SHARE label on each side of each box.

Shipping Costs: The bottleneck is money not supplies. School supplies are heavy, and it is very expensive to transport them 10,000 miles to the rural villages in East Africa where SHARE operates. We would greatly appreciate it if you could please include a donation of $20 per box, check payable to SHARE. Many people fundraise to cover the shipping costs.

Tax Receipt: SHARE will send you a tax receipt for the donation.

Drop Off: Please contact us (info@shareinafrica.org or 908-766-3311) to arrange a drop off date and time. The drop off location is in Basking Ridge.  Or send supplies to SHARE, PO Box 330, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.

Recognition: We would love to receive pictures of your activity to add to our website and newsletter. There are several advantages of this - publicity and recognition for your group members, motivation to other groups, etc. Additionally, this helps us to expand our impact. Should you have any newspaper coverage we would like to receive a copy.
