Girls’ Reading Programs: "Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader"

Girls who attend primary school in Bukoba, Tanzania, struggle to become literate.

They are expected to perform household chores, such as cooking, cleaning, farming, and caring for siblings, instead of pursuing their studies.

SHARE is addressing this need by establishing girls’ reading programs.

The reading programs are held after school in the SHARE libraries. The rooms are safe and secure learning environments with thousands of children’s books, educational materials, and lap top computers. The main focus of SHARE is to improve English language writing and speaking skills.
SHARE employs teachers to educate the girls.

Our motto is: “Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.”
