Celebrity Buzz - Amplifying awareness for SHARE's work

SHARE's work in Africa has caught the attention of some well known people (actors, musicians, politicians, athletes). We are grateful for their interest as it amplifies awareness for our cause.

Nate Berkus, host of NBC's The Nate Berkus Show, was so impressed with SHARE's work in Africa that he invited SHARE founder, Shannon McNamara to be a guest on his show.  NBC, The Nate Berkus Show, February 25, 2011  Shannon was asked about the importance of raising the level of education for girls in Africa.  Nate told a national audience that SHARE was "really fabulous," "absolutley great," and "very, very cool".  Nate is a design expert, New York Times best-selling author and regular contributor to "The Oprah Winfrey Show" since 2002.  The show is a daily series that explores a broad range of lifestyle subjects to stories of personal transformation, all explored through Nate’s distinctive filter.

In honor of Women’s History Month Oprah highlighted SHARE founder, Shannon McNamara, as an “exceptional female” in March 2009. Oprah has featured SHARE on Oprah Radio, and has published two SHARE stories on the Oprah’s Angel Network.

Condoleezza Rice

Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice encouraged Shannon to continue with her work with SHARE in Washington, DC. Dr. Rice was impressed with the charity and welcomed the SHARE brochure and "Meet Joanita" DVD that Shannon offered. Dr. Rice congratulated Shannon for being honored as one of "America's Top 10 Youth Volunteers", winning a National Prudential Spirit of Community Award for her outstanding community service. Miley Cyrus

Singer and actress Miley Cyrus gave SHARE’s founder, Shannon McNamara, a special invitation to her November 2009 concert at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. The teen sensation met with Shannon and two additional SHARE volunteers, Bridget Bauer and Dylan Canete backstage prior to the concert.  Cyrus told the girls that “SHARE is awesome” and thought that their volunteering was "really cool." Monique Coleman

Actress Monique Coleman (High School Musical; Dancing with the Stars) was so impressed with the work SHARE is doing in Africa, that she tweeted (92,000 followers) reporting how SHARE is "changing the world" and included a photo of herself with SHARE founder Shannon McNamara.  Monique expressed her dream to travel to Africa and Shannon welcomed her to visit the SHARE schools in Tanzania.  Thanks to Monique for her awesome support for SHARE!

Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan

Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan spoke with SHARE founder Shannon McNamara about the importance of giving adolescent girls in developing countries access to education.  The two met at Carnegie Hall in New York City at Glamour Magazine's "Women of the Year" event on November 8, 2010.  The Queen was presented with Glamour magazine's Woman of the Year award and is a Girl Up Global Advocate. 

Nigel Barker

Nigel Barker, renowned fashion photographer, author, and judge and photographer on the reality show "America's Next Top Model," has volunteered in Tanzania and has seen first hand the difficulties for African girls.  Nigel spoke with SHARE founder, Shannon McNamara in Washington, DC at the UN Girl Up Pep Rally on January 12, 2011, and was very interested in hearing about SHARE's work in the East African country.  "As the father of a young daughter and son, I can attest to the undeniable power and spirit of today’s youth,” Nigel remarked. "Women are all too often disenfranchised especially in 3rd world countries. Girls here in the US have many more opportunities than their international sisters and together we need to stand together to create equality the world over. No matter your sex, your color or your age, you deserve to be treated with respect and allowed to live your life to the fullest."

The Red Bull Arena lit up on the night of August 14th 2010 in front of a sold out crowd of 25,000 fans for the New York Red Bulls vs. Los Angeles Galaxy match.  The SHARE video presented at half-time, along with the lines introducing SHARE's founder to the crowd during the "Official Coin Toss Ceremony" - describing SHARE's path to deliver a more prominent future to less fortunate children - was an amazing opportunity.

SHARE founder, Shannon McNamara, had the opportunity to visit with, and share her experiences and ideas with US Senator Robert Menendez in his office on Captial Hill in Washington, DC.  Senator Menendez was very impressed with SHARE's accomplishments.

Michelle Kwan spoke with SHARE founder, Shannon McNamara, and UN Girl Up Teen Advisors, Jenna Bailey, Olivia Layton, and Bridget Duru, at a reception celebrating the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day at the White House on March 8, 2011. Michelle was interested in learning about SHARE and chatted about the importance of empowering young women in Africa. Michelle Kwan is the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history and is widely considered one of the greatest figure skaters of all time. She is a two-time (1998 & 2002) Olympic medalist, a five-time (1996, 1998, 2000, 2001 & 2003) World champion (a record bettered only by Sonja Henie) and a nine-time (1996, 1998–2005) U.S. champion (the all-time record, as tied with Maribel Vinson-Owen).
