Please note: A Message from SHARE
SHARE has donated 33,000 books to 11 schoool libraries in 3 African countries, impacting 8000 students and teachers.
Unfortunately, while the need for books in Africa continues to be great, the skyrocketing cost of shipping has made it cost-prohibitive at present to send books to the schools we support in Tanzania, Malawi, and South Africa. As a result, we must regretfully ask for a moratorium on the shipment of any books to SHARE. Thank you for your understanding of this difficult situation.
The EXCITING news is that we are piloting an E-Reader program in 2011 as a more cost-effective means of getting literary materials to Africa!
We are off to a phenomenal start as The Nate Berkus Show has donated 10 SONY E-READERS to SHARE in February!! .

About 900 SHARE volunteers in American have helped collect, sort, label, and box donated children’s books and school supplies for the SHARE libraries. As news of SHARE spreads, volunteers around the world have started book drives. Currently children in Rome, Italy have collected 300 books, and children in Dublin, Ireland, have started a school supply drive as well.
In March 2009 SHARE shipped 12,000 books to Tanzania with the help of two nonprofits, Books for Africa and COSAD. The books arrived in May 2009 and were distributed to the 3 schools.
In May 2010 SHARE donated 17,000 children's books to school libraries in Kenya and South Africa, and 250 books to two feeding centers in Malawi by partnering with other nonprofits working in Africa.
Over the past three years 33,000+ books have been donated to African libraries by SHARE!
